My girlfriend who is 16 was kicked out of the house by her mom the other day. Which is perfectly legal. She is on her own now and I am trying to get her to the states to live with me, her boyfriend, and my mother. The problem is, these airlines people want a parent signature for travelers under the age of 18. Well her mom refuses to sign that. And she is legally on her own in Canada. She doesn't have any parents or legal guardians anymore because she is on her own now.

My question is can she forget about the parent signature to travel seeing as her parent disowned her and she has NO legal guardians? What are we supposed to do now? Her mom is seriously demented and my girlfriend is completely helpess.

I am trying to get her from Toronto, to Arkansas here in the states. Any ideas on what to do? I really need them. I have never needed so much help in my life.

Thanks.

Also if anyone knows anywhere else online, or some links, that I could find help I would appreciate it.

Hi,
This is a legal issue. You may want to look up law firms that deal with immigration. I know a lot of them handle cases like these. There are quite a few people with similar circumstances. I will ask around and find out if I can point you to a specific law firm. This is a legal issue and this is the only way you will be in a position to get your girlfriend over to the US.

The only thing I can suggest is that she take a bus to the border if she is able to get in to the US with her passport. Once you are in the US, there isnt much airlines ask to board a plane in the US. I was flying on my own at 16 and 17 in the US and I was never ask for a "parent permit" to get into the flight. Go to NY and then have her fly to Arkansas from there. Good luck!

She does not have a passport. Her mom interfered with her trying to get one last summer and hasnt been able to since.

What about greyhound. Would she be able to cross the border into America on a bus without a passport? She has a canadian issued id card I do believe and her birth certificate. Would that get her through?

Is there any reason why your girlfriend can't get a passport. Seems it would make things easier for her to travel. I'm sure at 16 she should be entitled to an adult passport, and if so, she must be able to travel as an adult. I have no ideas about laws and regualtions over there, but just thought that is the obvious thing to do.

Of course its the most obvious thing to do. But time isnt on her side right now, the friend she is stay withs parents arent letting her stay long. Not even for the night. She has nobody to go to and is pretty much stuck. So right now we are trying to figure out if american customs will make her get a roundtrip ticket through greyhound.

We are pretty much in dire need of ideas. Not that there is any.. we're just trying any idea we can get ahold of.

Deal with the immediate priorities first

1. get her somewhere to stay in meantime
2. Sort out her best way to get to the states
3. i guess if she's gonna need a passport its gonna take at the least a week or more!

Try a hostel to stay in Toronto even if its only for a lock o nights!

Okay here's the update for who cares...

I am sending 400$ to her tomorrow in Canada. Hopefully she gets this and gets a roundtrip ticket to here. The only thing that is stressing me out is she is 16 and only has her Canadian ID and her birth certificate. I made her right down my address and work numbers for proof of destination.

I'm just worried about the customs officer that will process her. She is 16 and traveling alone and he may think she is a runaway when in reality she was kicked out. Im making her get a return ticket so the officer will see that she plans on returning and not staying.

How do you guys think this might work out? I'm so worried and stressed. Blah.

Thanks for everyone who helped I appreciate it.
