I made a booking for this hotel back in April through a travel agency in Hong Kong and I was supposed to stay there during the end of May. But due to the unstable political situation in Vietnam in May I was forced to cancel my trip to Con Dao and Vietnam (I am a Chinese and there is a potential war between the 2 countries during that time due to maritime conflicts, and there is a RED Outbound Travel Alert issued by the Security Bureau of the Hong Kong Government for Vietnam due to the anti-Chinese protest happening all over the country). So I ended up having to cancel my Vietnam trip by early May.
To my surprise, I have been told by my travel agency that this hotel refused to refund my booking, given that I made the decision to cancel the booking over 2 weeks in advance, and the fact that I received FULL REFUND for my flights with Vietnam Airlines and the other hotel I booked in Ho Chi Minh City. Even more ridiculous is that my travel agency informed me the reason for them not refunding my booking is because there are no anti-Chinese riots happening in Con Dao Island. I find this reason to be outrageous and ridiculous. Firstly I will have to pass through Ho Chi Minh City to get to Con Dao as there is no direct flight between Hong Kong and Con Dao. Secondly, who is to guarantee my personal safety in Con Dao if the Vietnamese living on Con Dao decides to join in with the riot, or in a worse case, war breaks out? Thirdly, unless you are telling me Con Dao is not part of Vietnam and thus will not be affected by any events taking place over Vietnam, the reason given to my travel agency is a joke and is totally unacceptable.
So I sent an email to both the Con Dao branch of this hotel chain and the main customer service email provided in their website to seek for an explanation. As guess what? THEY DID NOT EVEN BOTHER REPLYING!! Given this is a world renowned chain of hotel I was expecting a much better service to customers. So first they expect me to risk my own personal safety to travel in a country which is in riots, and when I emailed and asked for an explanation I didn't even get a reply. What a great job done by the people in the offices of this hotel chain!!! So I feel obliged to share this great experience I am having with Six Senses in Con Dao, and also the whole Six Senses Group in general, and warn anyone reading this post to STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS HOTEL AND ANY SIX SENSES HOTELS because they don't even have the basic manners and service to run a hotel properly.
