Hey Sam, Pete!
Can you clarify Spam as it pertains to the forum? Sometimes it is clearly obvious, but sometimes it seems iffy...like if they have their email included.... Or a first time poster singing the praises of some Hostel/hotel/bar/travel agent....are they all considered spam?
Thanks guys!
:)

Sure, happy to clarify.

Emails: not so fussed. Sometimes it's best not to bother flagging those as it may make new members feel kidn of unwelcome. Very rarely do they mean harm.
First time posters posting links: This is almost always spam in my opinion. We're very unlikely to give them benefit of the doubt.

In fact, the main ones we are concerned with are the obvious promotions. I'm finding they almost always are flagged for us already these days, which is great!!

There are also the very rare outbursts of nastiness, but these require some careful handling usually - probably best to just send Sam or myself a message about it.

If there is a duplicate post, you could flag it as spam, but it would be nice to put in a reply (or send Sam or I a message) letting us know why it is flagged, as we may not have seen the copy of the post.

Any other specific hazy situations?

Peter

How do I flag a post as spam?

4. Posted by Peter (Admin 5811 posts) 11y

Hi Angela,

Only Respected Members and Travel Gurus are given the option to flag posts as Spam. Otherwise it would be too open to abuse. If you come across anything that hasn't been flagged yet though, feel free to drop me a message :)

Ok, thank you Peter.

Thanks Peter!
I think you covered it all;) I just thought it was harsh to click spam for adding an email to a post compared to blatant spamming, but you cleared it all up. :)

Peter, just one more thing.

I tend to flag a post as spam about once per fortnight, and most of them are clear-cut promotions.

When a post is flagged as spam, do you see who flagged it? No reason, just curious.

Indeed, I can see who flagged it.

Poor Angela! One of the most active and helpful members and she's still only a Full member :(
