In the article it says, "Truglio said "Sesame Street" also will introduce new characters, such as talking eggplants and carrots." So they are trying to get kids to take on healthy eating habits by giving human qualities to the food they want them to eat? Seems like that is just more likely to cause emotional trauma in children than anything else.

Children will cry, "I can't eat that eggplant, it reminds me of Mr. Purple-pants on the street!!!"

Dear me, they will be skinny children, but so emotional maladjusted...

Just saw the TV news report footage on Cookie Monster's "new friends" this morning... The talking apple and eggplant are a bit unnerving to say the least! And, they sang the "Cookies Are A Sometimes Food" song. The focus group, comprised of 5 year olds, commented that Cookie Monster needs to eat healthy foods or he will die. One boy got up and shook his finger in the reporter's face to get his point across that cookies are bad.

I'm calling Cookie Monster to recommend a Sesame Street character strike! Miss Piggy can be their organizer.

The Count can do the tally of names on the petition. And Oscar the Grouch can guilt people into signing it.

I'm not child psychology expert, but doesn't this spell potential disaster? I can picture this poor kid at 15, sitting at a table with a cookie in front of him, rocking back and forth while reaching out for the cookie and quickly puling away. "Cookies bad, cookies bad..."

Why couldn't cookie monster have a pot-luck with his new veggetable friends and bring a bag of cookies for AFTER the meal?? At least then the moderation message is clear.

I think that's what they are trying to do with the talking vegies singing the Cookies Sometimes Food song. The piece said that CM will be allowed to eat a cookie now and again. What caught me - the 5 year olds have already been told/explained to/whatever - that the cookies are bad and will kill you. Granted, they are only 5 and we don't knw what was really said to them. But, the kid getting up and in this guy'ss face to make a point was rather scary.

The petition is near completion but Bert and Ernie are having a disagreement about the talking vegies. Whether they can be part of the strike or not... Update at 11!
