wonderz2014 has indicated that this thread is about Venezuela

I plan on going to Venezuela as the topic title says by myself to meet & stay with a friend from there.. The location will be Maracaibo & then going to Punto Fijo in the state of Falcon.(where is going to be the main place I`m planning to stay). I've been seeing the warnings & possible situations that have happened in the past & could happen. I see the economic situation Venezuela is in. My main worry is to be harmed in a place/ vacation & I have to be happy in. So can anyone tell me your experiences to whomever went this yr for vacation & your opinion if I should go. I paid 1k9 for the flight ticket, I was thinking positively until seeing all these comments/topics. I feel overwhelmed now & worried about myself. I'm a young traveler but is bilingual. I will be staying there 25days...

The friend you're going to hang out with is Venezuelan and lives there full time with family, yes? Otherwise I can't imagine why you're going there for 25 days...

Maracaibo was dump when I was there a few years ago and I can't imagine it's any better now. Punto Fijo is a way better location to spend the majority of your time. There's some cool places and great beaches in that area, but like anywhere in Venezuela you have to keep your wits about you.

Have fun. Venezuela has a horrible reputation which I think is largely exaggerated for tourists, but it does have a mean streak where unrelated/unpredictable crime happens all the time, everywhere.

Travel safe and have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Yes she is. The thing is I could not get any flights to her nearest airport(plus she has family in Maracaibo). I really don't plan on staying in Maracaibo for long. The problem is the website/airline. I was thinking of backing out of the trip or just making it shorter, due to the fact I don't know if I can get accustom or blend in with them. I'm a Spanish speaker myself, but the accent is surely unique and different. Punto Fijo is 5hrs away in a bus from Maracaibo. I'm really hoping Christmas/ New Yrs is calm over there. But in the end I am doubting myself out of this vacation trip & might try to somehow get my money back(even though I really doubt I can at this point). :(
I also do really want to visit/meet her but feel like I will stand out too much in the cities as a foreigner.

Since your friend is a local and you'll be surrounded by her family then I'm sure you'll be fine. That said, who wants to be smothered by family for the entire 25 days of your vacation...

It's a tough call either way. Good luck with your decision.
