can anyone tell if there are any nice countryside destinatinatios (hiking and/or sunbathing etc...) around shanghai? i'll be visiting in aug 2005 and would like to spend some time (6-8 nights) outside the city itself and see some chinese countryside. thanks!
August is summer and very hot. However, Huangzhou close to Shanghai is a very popular place to visit
water towns near Shanghai are quite nice.
these include Zhouzhuang, Zhujiajiao,Wuzhen, and Tongli.
You can go to Nanjing too. Its not really countryside but the War Museum is really eye opening. 1 day there is sufficient.
Agree with cjin. Those water towns around shanghai are very nice and quiet. Also Huangzhou (not far from Shanghai) is the absolute "do-not-miss" city.
