Hi Joey,

Great plan, but try to do some research first. Sort out which countries you would like to visit. You can maybe do some kind of season-job and work and travel at the same time. There are so many places to visit and the travel costs can very much. Good luck!

Completely agree. Money and earnings all depend on where you are travelling, so grab a map and start throwing pins!

Or if you don't have any ideas on a country you can always check out TP's community highlights for inspiration. Good luck choosing!

Cheers,
Kellie

You can also start a bucket list where you write all the places you want to visit. Then you sort them out regarding their importance.

You will find lots of blogs talking about budget for a trip. Read many blogs and you will know more about travelling ;)

Good luck,

AL

Let me first start by saying I was you 3 years ago. I had that dead end job, the thought of traveling slightly made me nervous, which was a reason as to why I didn't have that urge to travel. Then I started logging on to lonely traveler, this is a wonderful website where it has people logging on as well tell you about their travels. Allowing you to live vicariously through them. Then once you find a location you want to travel to, find the correct season to travel there, and just buy your flight ticket. It is the flight ticket that is that first step, once you get that everything falls in line. You take the time off of work, you find all of the tourist locations you want to visit, bus routes, hotels, travel legs.

My first backpacking travel was from Malaysia to Thailand. It is about the distance from the bay area in San Francisco to Seattle Washington. Not too bad, and relatively inexpensive including travel and hotels. Which was perfect. The most expensive part will be your flight if you are looking to not pay too much money for everything else. But if you looking to travel in style, then obviously it will get up there in price. But that will have to be something that you have to decide.

Another thing, always have a travel buddy, whether that is someone you know, or a friend of a friend. It is just nice to have backup in certain cituations. Another thing you need to be is trusting and relaxed. When we took a bus from one location to another, they dropped us off, but then took off with our luggage. They went to go drop others off to get more people in the bus so when they came back they could get more money. But they never told us what they were doing and we were dumped on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting for them to come back. Personally I almost shit a brick, but my cousin was completely composed and said "Well we have our money and our passports, thats all we really need." Which of course calmed me down. But it was hard.. really hard.

Anyhoo I hope you have a wonderful time planning your next trip! Happy Trails!

Ditto everyone above. No one can take you by the hand and lay everything out for you.

Start researching, it's half the fun of the trip. Google is your friend. There are countless travel forums - like this one - and countless travel blogs and resources on the Internet. Go to your local library, etc. The research possibilities are endless.

That said, in my opinion you have two main choices...

1.) Start with an easy and very inexpensive destination like Thailand and SE Asia.

2.) Start researching this, it's available to you in several different countries:

Have fun and good luck with your research, then you can come back with specific questions.
