Stuffed leather chairs, valets, and fine dining at the movies?

I went to a retro-movie house in Auckland where the last row was equipped with wine buckets and little tables. At the bar, they sold wine by the bottle, cappucino (in ceramic cups, if you will), espresso, fancy desserts, and just about any beer or mixed drink you wanted (martini, anyone?). The seats were huge and comfortable - which was great since we were watching the lengthy Lord of the Rings II.

All to say - hooray! It's finally making it's way over here!

I've been to Hoyts La Premiere at Fox Studios a few times.

Sit up the back in the big leather lounges, drink beer, eat finger food, and relax a bit.

Got some free tickets so might take the wife this weekend!

The most unusual cinema I've ever been to was the Cinema Paradiso in Wanaka, New Zealand.

More quirky than luxurious, the seating comprised of 'rescued' 1950's & 60's sofas and an actual convertible VW Beetle, complete with plush purple velvet seats (perfect for some discreet cinema-snuggling!).

You could tell when the interval was about to come due to the gorgeous smell of home made cookies emanating from the kitchen. They also served bottles of wine and quality locally brewed beer.

All in all a great experience - highly recommended if you're passing that way.
