So just received confirmation from the great guys at trek of america's.
The return/onward ticket.
It does not apply to private vehicles... return tickets not needed.

time to get packing..

Have a super trip - it's the most fantastic area of the world to visit via overland! We used the roadlog for camps and also the "border updates", saved a lot of headaches....happy travels

You ARE going to be in a car or van? If you are at the border with it, they will NOT ask if you are "flying" in, and you must get papers for your vehicle....

We will be travelling in our own RV. So no worries there.

Were doing North america starting in new york and ending in miami hitchiking backpacking and looking to rent a car! then were flying over to cartagena (Columbia) and back packing making our way down to brazil through Ecudaor Peru chile Uruguay ect! :D

Columbia is good for backpacking, as well as Ecuador...Peru is a lot of "no mans land" rides are scarce but lots of buses...you should try to get to Chile before winter.
