hello you lovely people,
so i've had my heart set on travelling since i was younger and i've now got to that stage in life where it's time for me to jet set off into the sunset and find paradise ( feel like leo in the beach) anyway i was trying to organise a trip with uni friends and that just isn't going to work out as everyone has their own dreams of where they want to go. i want to go and explore asia for a year starting jan 2016, but i am literally petrified (little bit dramatic) of going it alone . i'm all for meeting new people, but i think it's that going it alone from the very beginning. i was wondering what tips people had for going it alone and if anyone else out there was maybe thinking of doing the same type of trip? i've been looking at STA and the routes they offer and this is my preferred route UK > DELHI > HONG KONG > HANOI - OVERLAND - HO CHI MINH > BANGKOK - OVERLAND - KUALA LUMPUR > COLOMBO > UK . it'd be cool to chat to some like minded peeps
Honestly, go by yourself! Not sure how old you are but when I was 21 I went to South America for 3 months by myself and it was the best thing I ever did. You will find heaps of travellers on the way, and more then likely tag on with them. it seems very daunting at first (I had mini anxiety attack when I was leaving - I was thinking, 'damn, what have I got myself into' but everything ran fine I have been to asia a few times now and the people over there are lovely, they will help you find your way
i'm actually 21 at the moment so yeah a little on the nervous side, but i'm hoping that the excitement will over rule any anxiety i have. i've only even ever flown by myself once so it's all a little daunting, but i guess i have until jan 2016 to amp myself up for it haha. literally this has been a life long dream of mine and i can not wait to go, so either way it's going to be one hell of a adventure.
ipaintedthesky - Good for you for just going for it. If you think it could ease some of your anxieties, I might suggest a weekend or week trip somewhere close solo for cheap to get a feel for what it's like - you won't be disappointed. Maybe eastern Europe -round-trip flights don't cost much from the UK, and you can see what hostels are like, etc. Either way, I'm sure you'll have a wicked time.
i think once i get over the nerves i'll be fine, as i've always been quite an independent person...i think thats a great idea to test out the waters, maybe i'll have a look at going somewhere this summer and seeing how it goes
