Put the camera in a plastic shower cap or plastic bag when it rains, or when you're riding in an open vehicle and there's dust everywhere, particularly if you're behind another vehicle kicking up dust. A small microfiber towel to cover the camera also will help protect it from the dust. Plus you can use it to wipe off any. Padded Tenba wraps, which come in various sizes, are pretty good for protecting cameras, laptops, lenses, etc., especially when they are in backpacks. I use one wrap to protect the large Panasonic FZ1000 that I use to photograph wildlife. I use a velvet bag for the smaller Panasonic ZS40 that I keep in my pants pocket while walking around town. I had someone make the bags for me, since I'm not handy with my hands. When the ZS40 goes into the backpack, it's in a Tenba wrap. Hope this helps.
