I spent 3 day in Ranthambhor National Park in Rajasthan looking for one. The day before I got there people said they saw two groups of "mother's with cubs". All I saw was a Tiger Print :( I did see some other cool animals but no tiger.

I've also seen tigers in captivity . Haven't had the pleasure yet of seeing one in the wild though

hey travel100, you've company.. thats a very common thing.. every evening you go back there'd be some guy saying "we saw X number of tigers".. but whenever you go in the jungle all you see is the prints :) Not just tigers all prized animals..

I've spent 5 days in Sasan to see the asiatic lions it .. it involved being in the jungle for 7 hours a day .. but with no luck.. My sis went there the next month and saw a whole pride of em :(

Same with 3 days in badhavgarh .. and 3 first days in kanha.. but on last day I did see a Tiger .. its an maginificent animal , esp in wild ..

Wow...that's cool. Did you have a camera with you? and manage to get a picture?

Tigers are at the top of my list of animals I'd love to see in the wild. I'll probably give it another try next time I'm in India. When I was there it still was not the dry season so the Tigers had plenty of choices of places to drink water, making it even harder to guess where they might be.

I'm sure the day after I left everyone saw lots of them

I'd love to know if anyone has been to Khao Yai in NE Thailand. I'm going in a month, and there is a small group of tigers there--about 15.

The closest I got to a tiger in Khao Yai was around ten years ago when, on a three day walk through the park, we heard a tiger growl -- it scared us absolutely witless.

I think it was worse not being able to see it - I felt like it was sitting in my pack LOL.

Our NP guide was quite excited, though he had said he had seen and heard a few in the past.

We didn't move for a while and eventually it wandered off. Aside from the inital growl/purr (dunno the right term) it made similar noises about a half dozen times -- overall it was extremly exciting, but to be honest, I would have preferred to have seen it at a greater distance - say from a hide overlooking a salt-lick for example - where I would have been less concerned about being eaten alive!

It's a great park.

I bet no-one on TP has been this close to a tiger:
