Hi Im a yonker looking for any information on commercial fishing I can get. It is so boring out here and I want some reel adventure. Where do you live what do you eat and what are the expences. I have never had the opprotunity to do commercial fishing but i heard it can be pretty taxing work. Is there any physical trainning i can do to prepare myself for the work. Please help me out with any information you might have
Im sorry but what is a yonker?
I meant someone from New York, maybe it's one of those inside sayings.
If you really want a job in the field and have no previous experience then get yourself a First Aid ticket-the higher the better.
Then some Navigational training, not just garden variety GPS, a Radio Op Ticket, small engine Mechanics is always handy, and Cooking skills can help.
There are Community College courses in different aspects of the Commercial Fisheries fields that are sponsored by the Industry-there's need for fresh meat as most people rarely last long.
