Hi,

I am from South Africa and don't see any travel or accommodation discussions going on here.

Is there anybody here that would like to know more about South Africa or wish to travel to our country?

Let me know

Regards,

Hi
I am going to South Africa in December for a month, I would love to know where the hot spots are and what not to miss. I have been told Durban is great and not to miss it. What do you think about Johannesburg, is it dangerous. We would like to do a safari, but not sure where to do one and how much that would be? We are planning on doing the Garden Route down to Cape Town. Also I dont know if you would be able to help but do you know anything about buying diamonds in SA. I just got engaged and have heard that its well worth waiting to get the ring when your in SA

Thanks

Hi there,

Happy to help where I can.

Firstly, I live in Johannesburg for the past 6 years. Jo'burg, as they call it, is the place of gold. And what that means, is that this is the economy of South Africa. I work in the CBD of Jo'burg, but yes, there is certain places you don't go. Tourists normally don't know these place and might make a mistake by going in areas that can be dangerous. If you stay out of those area, you should be fine.

Well Durban is the hottest coastal town in South Africa. It?s definitely worth visiting. Lots of beaches in the surranding area.

Don't forget the Garden Route. I came from Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape, and in December, its worth a visit as well. They call it the friendly city. I also have a friend there, that owns self-catering cottages and might get you in touch with him if you planning going that route. He also provides visits to game drives in the area. If you like beaches, Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay is the place to be. There are also a few game parks close by. The Addo Elephant park is the biggest in the area.

Mpumalanga includes the Kruger National Park, the biggest nature reserve and game reserve in South Africa. There is lots of places you can stay there and do safaris as well.

Cape Town, in the Western Cape, is a huge tourist attraction, but if you like swimming in the sea, its a bit too cold. Look at this site for good accommodation throughout South Africa: -snip-

There should be lots of stores here where you will probably be able to get diamonds cheaper than in any other country. Depends from where you are. If you convert your dollar or pounds, it will be worth it.

Hope this help..
