Did you work for three months on a farm? That's the only known point so far that will be necessary.... The details are not yet known about whether there can be a break or whether the visa has to be right after the first one... it's going to be interesting to find out. Keep an eye on the ministers website
As was said above you'll only get a second WHV if during your first one you worked on harvest jobs for 3 months.
I spent a lot of my visa working on farms but never for more than 8 weeks at a time, do you think I should have worked for 3 months in one go? I may have also accidently kind of also worked slightly illegaly on my holiday visa when I returned to Oz so not sure if it"s a bit of a gamble to return really........
I am currently on the 1 year WHV and it runs out in December. As far as I gather the actual details about the new 2 year WHV are not clear. I was just wondering a couple of questions: do you have to work for 3 consecutive months harvesting to be able to extend your visa or could you do say 3 monthly stints? Also how do you prove you have worked the 3 months - do you need to send your payslips off somewhere? I am currently doing office work and am wondering whether it is worth doing harvesting just to be able to extend my visa.
I don't think it would have to be one three month period, but details like this just aren't known yet... most likely you'll have to show some proof of working on a farm, but this too isn't known.
Typical with initial press releases like this is that the real information and details haven't been thought out yet and that doesn't actually happen till the week before the deal is sorted out
An email to the minister in questions department might help
I've just stumbled across this site and think its a brilliant idea,so much helpful information for us novices!! I was just wondering has there been any further update on the 2-yr WHV situation. Basically, myself and 2 friends are heading on a round-the-world trip on 1st Sep,we booked it a couple of weeks ago,but just for 12 months.I read an article about the new 2-yr option but there wasnt much info on it yet.If we could go for 2 years instead it would be brilliant, cos we wanna stay longer in New Zealand & South America, which we only have a month in each at the mo.
So excited about going, I cant feckin wait!!One other thing,I've absolutely no idea how much money to bring for the year, any suggestions??I'm up for anything, love goin on the p*ss & wanna do as much as I can so kinda thinkin f*ck the money, only gonna do this once eh!!
If anyone has a spare minute or two I'd love a reply to help me out. Thanks a million!!
No further word yet on the Oz visa, but you can get a one year NZ visa as well if you want to stay there for longer. It's a great country and a little easier to travel size wise. Plus, they have the lowest unemployment rate in years down there so it would be a lot easier to find work
For budgetting purposes, 50 AUD a day is probably the minimum if you are staying in hostels. 75 a day would be nice if you want to do quite a bit of partying and some travelling and tours/trips too
Thanks for that, really impressed with the site, fantastic idea!
See we could get the 1 yr New Zealand visa too, which we'd love to do, but we booked a world wide trip which has to be no longer than 12 months, so that kinda rules out getting both visa's unfortunately. So obviously when I read about the 2 yr Oz visa I was delighted cos then they might bring out new packages for the world wide trip for 2 yrs instead which would be perfect!Just have to wait and see I guess, fingrs crossed eh!!
If you've any special advice on any of the following places on our route I'd be delighted to get some!!
Singapore-Bangkok(Vietnam,Cambodia etc)-Bali-Sydney-New Zealand-Fiji-Cook Islands-LA-South America.........home!!
I cant feckin wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, knowing the airline business, I doubt this is going to have much, if any, influence on them. Airline fares and tickets are among the most overcomplicated items you'll ever purchase. Although it's getting better with the low cost transparent pricing model, that doesn't fly yet with cross continent flights. When they finally do realize there is a market there, we'll be several years down the line. Airline companies are just too slow to realize any decent business opportunities until someone else comes along and shows it to them... Sad, but true
Sounds like a sweet trip you have planned!!! I wish I was going to all those places... Enjoy
Cheers again Sam,
I guess we're just gonna have to go in and speak to the people we booked it with and see what develops, fingers crossed though that we can get the 2 yr-visa anyway. Would be so much better to have 2 yrs to spend cos there seems like so much to do and some of the people I know over there say it just flies in so quick.
Yeah, cant wait for the other spots, buckets of whiskey and red bull in Thailand? - yes please, I'll take four kind barman!!!ha, wont remember half my trip!!
