Hello All!

I am planning on traveling throughout Brazil during the month of August. I have a few questions for others who have traveled from the north to south or vice versa. How would people recommend traveling from Sao Paulo to the northeast?

Well "how" depends on the amount of time you ahve available really. If you have heaps of time on your hands,I would recommend doing this by long distance coaches which is by far the cheapest option. If you do the journeys over night you wast minimum amounts of daylight and also save on hotel costs. You also get to "see" (depends onif you travel at night or not and where you are going) more of the country. On the other hand, if you are short on time and feeling rich you can fly from one major town to another. You can purchase "hopping" tickets for travel in Brazil which allow you to stop off in various places, however these must be purchased before enterin the country.

Thanks for the response. Where can I find out about the long distance coaches? Is the information available online or must I inquire after I arrive in Brazil?

If when you say "coaches" it means bus, from São Paulo you can take buses to almost every big or medium city in Brazil, to have more information you can go to but unfortenetly is in Portuguese.

Look into getting the Brazil Airpass,, because long distance flights are quite expensive here.

[ Edit: sorry, no promos in the forum please. ]

I am interested in flying into Sao Paulo, but taking a direct (one-way flight) to Fortaleza and then traveling (by land) back to Sao Paulo. I have read on other sites that I could travel by buggie from Natal to Recife. Do you know where I could read find information about the bus schedules or other forms of travel in the northeast? Thanks for the responses.

I will be arriving in Sao Paulo and flying to Fortaleza on the 29th of July and plan on returning to Sao Paulo around the 28th of August.

hey, the buggy ride is pretty expensive, other than that there are frequent busses from Forteleza to Natal to Recife (btw if you do go to Recife check out Olinda, it's a beautiful little bohemian settlement just attached to Recife)
