I'm going to be travelling USA next year from start of June through to end of August with my boyfriend. We've never been travelling before so we're trying to have everything organised before we go! We want to visit the following .... San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas ... Then onto Miami, Orlando (possibly NYC). Is there anywhere you would suggest to miss out or add in ? And we are looking to spend minimum as possible so any advice on the best way to do it would be great..... Also we aren't fussed about staying in hostels although would have to be a private room. I would be grateful for any help as first timers it's quite daunting ! Thanks :)

You have covered a lot of the major cities in the USA which should take quite a bit of time. It appears that you are planning about a month which should be enough time to see all these places. If you have the time, you might want to add a few more places such as Chicago and Seattle. If you are interested in more than the cities, you could check out areas such as Yosemite Park and the Arizona desert. Also, catch the Everglades while in Miami.

You plan so far seems reasonable, according to your arrangements for transportation, you could add some more stops along the way.

You can always pull over any time you like the view or the feel of the place if you're driving, and maybe spend the night. But if you're on a set schedule flying around or going by train, I'd recommend looking for extra destinations around the big cities that you have already mentioned, just so as to have a neat itinerary in place. You'll have plenty to do as it is, with the 6(7) cities, but you could try building day-trips around them.
