Hi peeps, sorry about this but ive searched the forums but cant find a concise answer to my questions. Im planning to do my first ever backpacking trip this year (Europe) and need some help with my 2 questions:

1) What is the smallest size backpack i could get away with?
(Im female and only 5"1 and I dont want a massive or heavy load, quite happy to travel with the absolute minimum)

2) Boots or trainers?
(Im not a hiker/ walker and am much more comfortable in trainers, but I have the idea that i should be wearing boots? Are boots the way forward?)

Thanks folks
monkee xx

ok so mine is a berghaus one v.360l, it is soooo comfy-it's a womens one by the way! Has a back frame as well-a bonus!

If you feel more comfortable in trainers, go with trainers. If your not climbing mountains you won't need great big walking boots.

erm...well...i'm bad at things like this...i believe it's a 60 but don't hold me to it-i just went into a camping shop and was trying on a few then the bloke cam over and suggested a few-it does no harm and i ended walking out with this beauty!

It'll be big enough for a big trip!

People laugh at the thought of lil old me and a huge backpack-but it suits my size and frame!

Good luck with it! x

oooh and the boots thing-i am comfy in trainers but i am going to invest in a pair of walking boots-not going to spend too much on them though!! I am not a pro walker or anything, but i am sure they will come in handy, i'm not planning any big walks in oz but who knows what will happen when i get there!

On the topic of packs for female.....does anyone have experience of the Eagle Creek continental journey women's fit? This was the pack i was thinking of getting but some websites say it is 62L and some say 69L i wish they would make up their mind! I am concerned about size as I am tallish but quite a slim build. The dimensions are 16x22x10 inches - is this about average size for a pack?! Sorry to hijack the thread monkee but i didn't want to make another post with practically the same topic. Thanks x
