I've done the journey twice and both times used the 'baz bus'..u can get on/off at a number of places along the way and its a great way to meet other people!

the best way is by train. Its an amazing journey and the sunsets are breath taking. You can also rent your own cabin or share it, i think they have six beds. they are around 150 rand. or just buy a sit which is much cheaper. it takes around 24 hours good luck

You can always drive the N1, it's 700 miles/1400 kilometers.

It's a nine hour trip, not bad, but I live in America, so.
