Ever noticed that Indian and black people never wear shorts; regardless of hot it might be? Why is that?

To prevent from being hurt more by sunshine, I guess.

James, generalizing by skin colour is very dangerous indeed. If anyone takes offense, please let me know..

And no, I haven't noticed that. I've seen plenty of Africans and Pacific Islanders who wear shorts. There are many cultures that don't wear shorts though - my understanding is that it may be offensive to show your knees, but not really sure. It's a cultural thing though, definitely nothing to do with skin colour.

Asian girls sometimes wear long trousers in summer to prevent from being hurt from sunshine. Sometimes I do. The hotter it is, the more careful I am to protect my skin.

correction: BY sunshine.

It must be a regional thing. Here in California, african-americans and people of India wear shorts.

Oh Peter, really! Generalising by skin colour and people maybe taking offence....

It was a simple question based on observations.

Just delete the post if it's that bloody "dangerous".

Quoting james

Ever noticed that Indian and black people never wear shorts; regardless of hot it might be? Why is that?

I lived in the south of India, and noticed that the men mostly wore long trousers rather than trousers. It seemed as though the legs were being protected against the weather and dirt. Of course, it's more formal as well. There were also a lot of men (especially Keralites) that wore sarongs.

India is very conservative, so it was rare to see any more than a woman's forearm and face exposed.

I have never noticed that anywhere in the U.S....then again I am married to a man who wears shorts when it is -13 C. outside (The man is weird I tell ya!) I won't wear shorts until it is above 24 C...to each their own;)

When it's 33 degrees here with 99% humidity, everyone wears shorts - whether they're short-shorts, burmudas, baggy shorts, or shorts accompanied by knee-high socks (what's the point??) and sandals. Some people may pass on shorts for religious/modesty issues, but lovely white skirts and headscarves look just as breezy and cool.
