Hello,
I am doing my Padi open water on Magnetic island - probably won't see much as just shore dives so after qualifying i want to go and dive on the great barrier reef somewhere between Townsville and Cairns. Can anybody suggest a really good company or suggest part of the reef to go to that is really good?
Any help would be really good thank you
Daisy

Hi Daisy,

I did my open water in Cairns with a decent school called prodive. To go diving off Cairns is very touristy, but still beautiful. It is also a good idea to book a trip directly at the hostel you're staying at as you can bargain about commision. Pity, you can't dive the yongala wreck in townsville, but if you manage to get your advanced open water, definetely go for it.
It's one of my favourite diving spots in the world.
And if you go south the coast instead of north you can do stunning and cheap one day trips to the reef from Town of 1770.
In any case, say hi to Nemo!

Bye,

Steff
