I'm currently looking at rucksacks for a round the world trip but I have no idea which litre bag to aim for? What would your advise be?

Thanks 😀

I would go for 60L - the other two are huge and will be more of a hassle to carry around. I normally travel with a 40L rucksack for shorter trips and manage with 50L max for longer ones.

Looking at your other post, it sounds like you're covering a lot of ground and are likely to be having a lot of travel days, moving on all the time. So my advice is: don't take the kitchen sink, travel light. Hefting a big pack is no fun, I'm certainly happier travelling with a 35-40L pack.

My pack is small enough to carry on to flights. That avoids it going missing or getting damaged (both have happened to me in the past) and saves me having to be there early enough to queue to check it in, and gives me a fast getaway upon landing, usually avoiding queues at customs as most of the plane is waiting at baggage reclaim.

Visit a store and try some packs for size and comfort - load them up fully and see how comfy they are after ten minutes. You're probably going to end up wearing your pack for an hour or so at a time on a travel day, so give it a try with 60 or 80 litres of gear to see if it suits you.

Bear in mind that stores have a vested interest in selling you a bigger, more expensive pack, and all the stuff to go in it. So take their advice with a pinch of salt
