I am planning to visit Edinburgh during the May weekend and wanted some guidance on interesting tours that I can take around Edinburgh.

There are several walking tours that meet up at night about halfway down the Royal Mile. Have you checked out the Graffiti Wall at I can't remember now which ones I took, but I loved it. Scotland is one of my favorite places!

There's a few ghost tours, which are good fun. All details can be found on various posters on the Royal Mile. Be scared, be very scared!!

I have to admit--the only thing that scared me was the number of Starbucks on the Royal Mile. Worse in London, though...

Honestly, I think the best tour of EB is to have the cabbie take the scenic route from the train station to the B&B or wherever you're staying. Then it gives you an idea of something else to check out later on, and I've yet to have a cabbie charge me anything absurd for the fun. Of course, this works much better if you're a girl in a skirt. ;) If it works...

Here's one of the haunted tour companies. I'm pretty sure this is one that I took:

Another one:

Unless they say something about the possibility of a tour filling up, I'd skip the reservation and just show up. Just pay on the spot.

I have a book at home called Walking Edinburgh, by Robin Gauldie, that's really good. It has walks all over the city.

As for other areas of Scotland, skip the Rick Steves guidebook--it's really not that much help on Scotland, and most of the info he has in it can be gleaned from his Graffiti Wall on his website.

Yeh, the ghost tours are good fun - although not scary and a bit over-priced for what they are...just make sure you go on the one where you end up in a pub and get a free beer! :)

Edinburgh is such a great place for just wandering around though. Beautiful city!!
