Travel Forums Asia Question about Chinese citizen visiting Vietnam

Hi. I plan to visit Vietnam this summer from China. I want to travel with a Chinese friend. I heard that Chinese citizens do not need a passport to visit Vietnam if they travel with a tour group. However, can Chinese citizens travel to Vietnam without a tour group if they don't have a passport?

If you only want to visit hanoi and halong bay like most of chinese organized tours yes.
But if you are planning going south more your chinese friend needs passport and real visa as well.

cheers,
yan

Thanks for the info and list of consulates. I noticed that the list didn't include the newly opened consulate in Nanning.

Thats totally new to me. I always thought u'd need a passport to travel anywhere outside your own country..Are there such practices elsewhere besides China/Vietnam?

Hi Jared,
I think what's being referred to is one visa being issued for the whole Chinese tour group. The tour operators would be rseponsible for ensuring that all the tour group members had their national identification cards with them.
