so far with the help of you guys thailand seems to be the spot for a vacation of my needs. which are women, parties, and good shopping. maybe a little sightseeing.
ive heard different spots in thailand. i would like to get it down to where several people are agreeing on the same place. that lets me know its the best and most popular spot. so what place would that be?
this will more than likely be a 2 week trip or more. so we probably wouldnt want to stay at the same place the entire time. since i heard there are island hops you can go on. thinking maybe we fly into bangkok and stay there for a couple of days. then maybe hit a few of the islands for parties and all that good stuff. what are some of the good islands we could go to. ive heard of koh phangan/samui/patong. are they pretty good? and can we get their by boat from bangkok or how do people do this sort of thing if they do? is it expensive by boat?
any help id appreciate. thanks
oh and this trip will be set for around August? is that a good time to go?
You can mostly organise mini bus transport from Bangkok, then boatsto which ever island you choose. I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions of favourite islands. Kho Pha Ngan in particular is a favourite party island
is it fairly cheap to take boat to and from the islands
I would do 3 or 4 days in Bangkok as it's by far the best place for shopping, plus you can take in some sightseeing. For the best nightlife it will be much quicker to get on the plane down south to Koh Samui (Chaweng Beach has a fair bit of nightlife). Boats are really, really cheap. Usually no more than $5 US. If you fly to Koh Samui you won't need to get a boat. I think you do for Koh Phan Ngan but not sure where you get it from.
Two weeks isn't a lot of time in Thailand. Bangkok: get in and get out - Grand Palace is a must as is Wat Po (Massage school there - great massages), a trip down Patpong I and Patpong II is worth a giggle if you are looking for women. The best shopping is in Chiang Mai especially at the night market - much cheaper then in Bangkok. The full moon parties in Ko Pha Ngan (sp) are infamous. You can fly into Samui then take a boat to the island or do the train/boat combination from Bangkok and get off in Chumpong (sp) at about 4 am then wait for the bus to take you to the boat. Its probably about $60 to fly o/w from Bangkok. Ko Tao has all the best diving sites, and Ko Samui is the large island in the Gulf with most of the night life. Phuket also has a lot of night life, it is a larger tourist mecca then Ko Samui, weather on that side may be wet in August. Phuket is close to Krabi which has great rock climbing and sea kayaking. In two weeks you are probably relegated to a couple days in Bangkok and then head south to the islands. Thailand is a great country and I'm heading back in July to spend time around Krabi and Ko Phi Phi.
thanks cdntrvl. pretty helpful. two weeks aint enough. were probably just goign to be partying. i figured wed be all pooped out by the end of two weeks. how long do you recommend to stay? we dont plan on hitting all the places over there. not doing any diving since we dive over here in guam. probably not much water activities at all. but we can take a boat from bangkok to any of the islands? or do you have to fly to and from some of them?
thanks for the help
no boats from bangkok - take a bus
i suggest few days in bangkok and visit grand palace as cdntrvl suggested. party in bangkok..hmmm so many places to suggest..silom soi 4, bed supper club, barbican , xchange , lucifer silom etc.no boat from bangkok. fullmoon party in Pha - Ngam island is on 20 August. so you should plan yourself to be there by that date..suggested one day earlier to get some fun before the fullmoon.
i could offer you combination package from bangkok to pha-ngan including bus+ferry to pha-ngan or if you wish to enjoy in chaweng , samui first..it's also a good choice.
let me know if you need more info or help on booking cheap hotel and tours.
