Data1000 has indicated that this thread is about China

Last year I traveled to Yunnan, but only had four days. It was my first time to Yunnan and I made the big mistake of choosing to spend the entire time in Kunming. Next month, I'm going to correct my mistake by going to Dali, Lijiang, Zhongdian, and Dequan.

Can anyone recommend clean hotels in those cities that are conveniently located and cost between 100 and 250 Yuan per night?

Thanks.

Firstly, if you stay in Kunming, there would be plenty of good recommendations obtained from other travellers at the Camellia Hotel (Y20 - 30 yuan per night for a bunk bed in the dorm OR Y120 for your own room with bath)or the nearby City Cafe (Y20 per night for a bunk. Incidentally, the Camellia accepts credit cards.

In Dali, I stayed in a double room with TV & bathroom at Old Dali Inn (No.5 Guest House) in Dali Old Town for Y125 per night. This was very luxurious. I did not want to leave Dali. (BUT Lijiang is better!)

On another occasion, I went on a week-long Yunnan group tour, arranged through a Chinese friend whom I am no longer in contact with. We stayed in quality hotels in Dali, Lijiang & Zhongdian (Shangri-la), so I don't know what the normal rates would be for those particular hotels are.

We did however look around guest houses in Lijiang Old Town. The best value seemed to be an ethnic Mosuo family-run guesthouse. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the nightly rate for a very clean & comfortable twin/double room was Y80 (US10). The YHA guest house nearby was slightly more expemsive, and did not seem as inviting.

In Zhongdian, try contacting The Mad Cow Pub to see if they can suggest somewhere. -snip-

My friends here (they have an apartment rented out in kunming) have recommended the Seagull Hotel, which I remember them saying was a bit more than 100 per night.

Swedish Peter's (the guy that runs the Cow Pub) left for home this past winter and hasn't come back yet. In Zhongdian, the Xiangbala hotel (the one in the same building as the tibet travel bureau) is pretty clean. There's the Lord Manor, which is pretty upscale for the old town. You could also try the Potala Log Cabin. The other places in the old town are slightly cheaper than your price range, but you might also find them acceptable.
