Greetings everyone,

I've only got 8 weeks to go until my RTW trip kicks off - can't wait!
Anway, I was just wondering whether anyone knows what the surf is like in Vancouver/Vancouver Island? I know that it will be decent in Australia and New Zealand but is there any chance of a ride in China/Vietnam?

Anyone had any experiences in these areas?

Cheers :)

I dont know about those places but I can tell you that there is great surfing in Costa Rica, Peru and Hawaii (this one is a given) if you are making your way to any of those countries...

I don't think there is too much of a surf scene going on in Vietnam. SOme much better places in Asia to surf.

Found this, no idea how accurate it is:

Surfing
After surfing was introduced in Vietnam the popularity is increasing day by day. The best surfing conditions are found in the month of November, which continues through March and April, in the northeast region. Phan Thiet in Vietnam's southeast coast is said to be the best region for surfing and windsurfing.

The fact that there is very little on the net and nothing in my 2 guidebooks on Vietnam suggests you will be disappointed in Vietnam as a surfing destination.

Hey Welshman,

Vancouver Island has a way way better surf that Vancouver. In Van City- there is little-to-no surf at all, just a tide, actually I haven't really seen anyone surf off of Vancouver Island, and I've been to on Long Beach pracically all the way across the island. However, I think there is windsurfing there, and the waves do get high on the East shore, so I would try that, check that out, but that has the most possiblities, especially on a windy day in the spring/summer. Good luck!

Peace,
