I am planning for a drive from SEA to LAX (Dec 27th to Jan 6th) on a rental SUV (AWD).
Please advice on the route and best places to visit.
I see lot of storms crossing that area with snow and rain.
This is my idea:
SEA--> Portland--> Lake Crater (depending on conditions on that day) --> Lake Tahoe -->Yosimete --> SFO--> LAX
I also dont want to drive the Interstate 5 all through due to dry route.
Want a mix of pacific coast drive and interior snowy route as well
Any insights would be greatly helpful.
Yes, I-5 will put you to sleep and rush hour traffic around Seattle and Portland will really slow you down. I like driving along the coast on Highway 101 and Highway #1 in central Coastal California (don't miss the Monterey Peninsula). A car will really be a burden in SF because of very expensive parking, and driving is no way to see this wonderful/beautiful city.
This has been the wettest Dec in many/many years in NW Oregon with flooding and landslides. You could take the Amtrak Cascades train to Portland, and then rent a car from there. You will see considerable snow in Crater Lake as well as Yosemite (many roads will be closed within those parks - suggest you consult the N.P. government website.
