hi everyone. I have planning with budget tours. Is it straightforward to make our own arrangements for tour of Vietnam, or are we better getting a travel company to do it for us? We've been given an itinerary by a travel co but it's extortionate. We're a bit anxious about doing it ourselves, never having been to this part of the world before. I search the internet to see a local vietnam travel agency. We want to go to Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, HCMC... I'd appreciate any advice from more seasoned travellers.

Hi!!!Vietnam is a very easy to travel without doing a tour I know cause I have been there a dozen times and I am originally.I say just to book the first night at a hotel cause it sucks to be jet lagged and looking for accommodation and then go to a travel agency and see what they have to offer.I only trust cab companies called vinasun and malinh if u don't want to be ripped off and they use a proper meter cause the other companies sometimes has fast moving meter.I hope u enjoy and if u need any more help let me know.

Yeah!! Travel in Vietnam is more exciting now but if you are the first time to travel alone in Vietnam, you should prepare good or if you don't have time so call an agency to do this for you with a comfortable fee. And I think many agencies would love to service you better as they can.

I send some advice as below:

- If you only have little budget for this trip you should refer to my recoment at subject: " 12 Days in Vietnam" - link: http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=107319.

- If you have budget more for this trip in Vietnam, You should chosse a travel agent.

Hi Jane,

Traveling to Vietnam is quite straightforward, however, remember that you're going to a developing country, thus, don't expect it to be "civilized". Also, if you don't know the place, there's a good chance you'd experience pocket-picking, thief, mugging... and the "foreign price". Vietnamese sellers have 2 price, 1 for the locals and 1 for tourists (especially foreigners). So, the best idea is to have a Vietnamese tour guide who is smart and know how to bargain. If you're not sure what to do in Vietnam, I'd suggest bringing your best camera 'cause Vietnam has amazing scenery which are perfect for photographers. -snip-

Hi Jane,

It's is too easy to travel in Vietnam. I knew some foreigners didn't need book a tour from a travel agency, but they got a fun and nice trip already. You can find some free tour guide or Vietnamese students. They will take to all of you to many exciting places and get experience with you without fee or you have to pay a litle bit for them.
To my opinion, with the tour of travel agency you have to pay more, and safer but sometimes you won't feel more excited than you get the experience by your way.

That's my ideas for you.

Nice to meet you
