Hey Sam,

I really admire those who can bike around my country Vietnam! Do you have any plans of where to start? Either from the South or the North is fine. I suggest you go with a group of people though, cause it's quite dangerous to be on your own. Let me know if you need any information about Vietnam. I'm more than willing to help if I can! :) Also, if you're dropping by Danang on the way, gimme a shout and I may be able to give you a discount to stay at -snip-

Greetings from Vietnam,
Denice

Cool idea Sam Although we don't have terrorists here in Vietnam, some guys can be really nasty. Also, i think the biggest problems for travelers/tourists coming to Vietnam is the "2nd price". People will charge you wayyyy more than the locals (~10 times higher), so partnering with local guys is not only help you to know more cool things to do, it's also good for your pocket

yeah really ! I have been travelling to vietnam for quite sometimes and it really helps me to get a local partner. Because I love photography and bring all the camera and stuffs without local help is really risky. I have taken a lot of nice picture last time i visited Vietnam

Hi, That's a great plan
I would like to suggest you that. When you stay & travel in the northern of Vietnam, you should take a group biking trip, it will be better because if you buy a bicycle & drive on your self, it's very expensive & waste your money, time.
There are lot of biking tour in the northern Vietnam as: Duong Lam village, Bat trang village in Hanoi, Viet hai village in Cat ba island, Hoa lu - tam coc or Bai Dinh trang an tour in Ninh Binh, Mai Chau valley tour in Hoa Binh province, Ba be national park, Ha giang, Sapa...
And when you finishing your time in the northern, you can buy a new & good bicycle & drive to the south. You should buy it from Super market!
Good luck!

Bike or motorbike?

If you mean motorbike then do some research on the licensing/insurance because the legality is very important. Also, I hope you're an expert rider because accidents (and you will ALWAYS be at fault) are common. Also, Vietnam has one of the highest death rates for motorcycle/scooters on the planet.

If you mean a bicycle then the legality is no issue of course, but unless you're off the beaten path and you're very careful you'll be run over by a truck and they won't even slow down.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry
