Hello there, new to the forum and came looking for some guidance for those that have moved to Australia from England for a year or more.
Me and my girlfriend have just finished university in May 15 and been working since, paying off overdraft and yet tiny financially stable. Now we are both working full time we are putting away £500 a month for things to look forward too - one of them being to move to Australia with a working visa at the end of summer hopefully. We are looking to save around £3,000 each and look for degree jobs out there potentially, although I'm not too fused once were there! Looking to start in Sydney, any advice? I've got a degree in graphic design and she has one in fashion textiles. Looking forward to hearing back! Please any advice would be great.
I would apply for the working holiday visa at least three months in advance. It probably won't take that long to be accepted, but you never know and you can hold it for like a year so why not? And even with the favourable currency exchange rate, I would recommend going with a bit more unless the plan is to work as soon as you get there. I don't know anything about the job market as we went just for an eight month trip, but Australia is very expensive IF you don't have a job. However, once you get a job, the rate of pay to spendings is one of the best in the world. I hear housing is expensive there, but food and diesel/petrol isn't so bad. We spent maybe $13,000AU a year (£6500).
