Looking for a travel buddy to join me on a brief trip across Northern Africa (:

From Tunisia, across Algeria and into Morocco. Ending journey with ferry to Gibraltar and flight back to UK.
Duration of roughly a month June 1st - July 4th

It's my first ever travel journey on my own and would be nice to meet someone a little more savvy about it all than me!

I'm currently a silversmithing student in the UK - age 20. Looking for someone of a similar age (18-30)

Interested in history and architecture, museums and galleries, breathtaking destinations & photo opportunities!

Hi Rosie

Since you say you're not too savvy yet I'll give some thoughts, i hope I'm not telling you the obvious.

Your travel dates fall squarely across Ramadan, so you can expect restaurants etc to be closed dawn till dusk. It's an extra difficulty.

If you've travelled into North Africa at all before you'll know that girls get a lot of attention / hassle. I advise travelling with a male companion, even then you will find males following you and if you step a few yards away from him you are likely to get them touching you. This was the case for us anyway, maybe you dress a lot more conservatively than my pals have.

Take a look at the Foreign Office website warnings for the places you're going. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/algeria

You're choosing ambitious and scary places for your first trip. Is there a particular draw to North Africa? Have you been before? It's an area I'd be thinking carefully about visiting, certainly not a typical first independent trip.

Hi Andy,

Thankyou so much for your advice!

I am fully aware of the culture in the countries I am planning to visit, and in fact I have no intentions to proceed with this trip if I cannot find people to accompany me! I am very interested in visiting these areas, mostly because of their vast comparison to culture in the UK, but I am happy to visit them at another time in my life.

Thankyou again for your comments!

Rosie :)

Andyf has some good advice.

I traveled in the Sahara in October; and was advised by my guide to avoid Algeria. He's traveled throughout the region for more than 30 years, including north Africa. On our journey through Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal, we passed through numerous checkpoints, both police and military.

Suggest you consider Spain, Portugal and perhaps Morocco. Happy trails!
