Hi peeps

Can I have your views on Freeloaders, has anyone offered or used accomodation from the site? Do you have any comments about it?

I actually signed up for it about a month ago...not to travel but to offer my home...so far, I haven't heard a thing....I might frisk you for chocolate, but other than that, I am pretty safe;)

I joined Freeloaders last year. To me, it seems like a bit of a non-event. The people that offer accommodation seem to forget that they are listed as hosts. One western couple in Bangkok replied to a request I made. The information they sought was tantamount to an Interpol or CIA clearance.

In theory, the idea is good. In practice, what's really being offered is one or two nights floor space. If a host could come and meet you at the airport or whatever, that would be good. But usually, your travel schedules don't fit in with the host's everyday routine.

Hey I signed up a few months back and have recieved some weird emails from blokes who sound very dodgy, one guy from Ghana suggesting I pay him money to stay in his village which was bizarre as Im not actually even going anywhere near africa!Another guy asking for photos and making some horrendous sexual requests! On the other hand I have been using Hospitality club, has been a far more fruitfull search!I like the idea that they check out peoples ID through their passports and many of the people have lots of reviews and you can contact the people who have stayed with them and stuff!Ive been in touch with several people who have both offered me accomodation and to show me around town!Im heading to LA as part of my RTW trip and have been talking to a girl via this website who has offered to meet me at the airport and spend a few days with me just so I have someone who knows the place well, is on hand to join me for drinks and stuff so it should be fun! Also met a couple of girls in Japan who are being really helpful and a girl from Singapore who has also offered to spend some time with me and offere me a bed for a few days!!!!As for being Kosher, I guess you just have to trust your instincts!!!!!!

Hi Twinkle

Thanks. I'll look more at The Hospitality Club. I have just noticed they state that they have 51,337 members in 159 different countries.

Cheers
Wocca

Im pretty skeptical about such arrangements, especially if it's from an online source. They made it too easy to sign up and i dont know if people are just too caught up in the hype.
Hmm..i watched too many horror films already..Red Dragon,American Psycho etc..

I have a spare bedroom (full bed) I am only a mile from the airport (which is 35 miles from ANYTHING, including a store) BUT, I am about 2500 miles from Las Vegas. If your ever in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, let me know! The thought of it sure sounded good, so I had to sign up. We have had 4 Japaness exchange students live with us over the years and it has been nothing but a great experience! We figured this way we could meet more people from around the world;)
