We will be ready to trek Macchu Picchu in June 2016. I have read mixed things about booking a tour. Is it better to book in advance or just turn up and book a tour once arriving in Cusco. We will be doing the 4 day trek.

What do you recommend ?

If with "the 4 day trek" you mean the classic Inca Trail, you must book way in advance. Like, within the next month at the latest. Spaces are extremely limited (500 people per day, including guides and porters), and you're not allowed to do it on your own. Spaces fill up extremely swiftly.

Note that "within the next month" is a guesstimate based on evolving popularity from a basepoint 7 years ago when I did it; I haven't kept up with how swiftly it goes nowadays. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if you're already too late, with all spots for June being gone already... Actually... *looks it up* Yup. May is booked solid. June is filling up very rapidly. I'd give you 1-2 weeks max before June is all gone, too.

As for who to go with, pick one of the companies at the top of the list here.

Entry tickets to Machu Picchu itself (if not going there via the inca trail), and for the train to Aguas Calientes (again, if not trekking; otherwise your tour company will take care of both of these) would only have to be booked a few weeks in advance (days might also still work, though you'll run the risk of having to go with a train at a less convenient time).

ive been looking at doing (2017) the 4 day jungle trek instead of the classic inca trail, seems a bit more fun imo, something like this. my friend did this a few years ago and loved it
