Hi there, im going to Rome at the start of may 2016 and have booked to stay at -snip- (moderator note: a hostel near Termini Station) Ive never been to Rome before. Is the station area dangerous? Also does anyone know if there are good restaurants nearby the station and some good places to go out at night there?

Any advice / tips would be appreciated.

The station area isn't nice at all. It has lots of pick pockets and beggars. Didn't stay around long enough to look at restaurants. Rome is one of my favourite cities it's a wonderful place.

I've never encountered problems at Rome's Termini station. It's a busy place with lots of people coming and going. Know that pickpockets like to target such places (rail stations and bus stations worldwide are prime venues for crime). So you have to be careful and alert.

The Chef Express buffet at Termini serves good food at decent prices. Many rail employees eat there. I've dined there several times. Rome is one of my favorite cities.
