Hi, I am planning to visit Japan from Germany but I couldn't decide on the airline. One of the cheapest options is Turkish Airlines (with stopover in Istanbul) and I heard really good things about it like nice food and comfortable seats. They are also among top 5 if I am not wrong. My other options are Qatar Airways which is a bit expensive and Cathay Pacific which I know nothing about. Anyone has an experience with Turkish Airlines or others? Which one would you recommend?
All three are excellent airlines. I've flown them all. Pick the one with the best price and the best schedule to meet your needs. Good luck!
Of the three airlines I have only used Cathay. No problem with Cathay, they got the job done. My flights to Asia have been from the other direction.
One thing I like when flying to a new country is arrival time. If not a big difference in price my preference is to arrive during the day or early evening. This way I can use cheaper transportation to the hotel and also get more use out of my hotel vs arriving during the middle of the night. Maybe even do something the same day I arrive.
For long international flights another preference thing I have is that I only choose airlines where I can collect frequent flier miles. FF miles means later on you get free upgrades, better seats and maybe free lounge use. Some airlines have "alliances" where your miles can count when using other airline FF cards.
If traveling on business and your company is paying for everything then do what they prefer. I have had jobs where even if a company paid for the plane tickets they allowed me to keep the FF miles.
