Travelling alone pregnant

Travel Forums Asia Travelling alone pregnant

I'm 20 weeks pregnant now, and will be 25 weeks when I travel.
I'm travelling alone to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam on 22nd March and I will be staying in Vietnam for 10 days.
I'm a bit anxious about the trip though.
Never been in Vietnam before but I've heard it's pretty safe and women are usually treated with respect.
But there's still some things that I'm not so sure of.
How are the people going to react when they see a foreign pregnant woman alone?
Is there some important things I need to know?
And also I would love to hear some ideas what to do in Ho Chi Minh City for a 10 days trip.

How are the people going to react when they see a foreign pregnant woman alone?

Only a suggestion. You could wear a ring and if asked explain that your "husband" is on assignment in some other foreign country. There is no need for long stories with total strangers you will not see again.

Is there some important things I need to know?

Visa requirements. Know how to handle your money in Vietnam. One thing I can add - don't leave VN with their currency. No one else wants it in other countries. I found US dollars helpful. Google search and forum searches will give you more information on money. Know how to get from airport to hotel. There are some expat forums you can look over - Google search will give you some. Perhaps a woman on the forum can recommend a doctor if necessary.

And also I would love to hear some ideas what to do in Ho Chi Minh City for a 10 days trip.

I would not stay there for all 10 days. Add another city, maybe even fly to Hanoi.

I can't add anything current, it has been over 10 years since I was last in Vietnam.

Up to you.

See your pediatrician and do what he or she recommends!

Hi there marmiz, I'm in a similar situation because also pregnant and traveling to Vietnam. Have you thought about Malaria and Dengue risk? That is actually my main concern right now that really makes me wonder whether I should go or rather cancel the trip... Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!

Remember that when you get sick you won't be able to take medications since you're pregnant. Be extra careful and yes I've heard some Dengue cases over there.
