I'm new here at Travellerspoint, but I'm so glad I found it. I've decided to go on a backpacking trip in SE Asia in August. I wan't to start a travel blog where I write and share my experiences, and to keep my family at home updated. Also because I love to photograph and need a platform to share my images.
I'm a Norwegian, though. It would be natural for me to write in Norwegian, but I feel as if I'm loosing a big audience in doing so. If I meet someone on the road, I would like them to be able to check out and read my blog to follow my trip. That will be difficult if it's in Norwegian. I could write in English though, but I also find this problematic. Many of my friends and family will wonder why I'm not writing in Norwegian, and I'm probably loosing many Norwegian readers. Not to mention the Norwegian travel blog community is small, and that makes my chances of getting more readers bigger.
I'm thinking of writing in both languages and use The WordPress Multilingual Plugin, so that I have all the articles at the same page but you can change between Norwegian and English. Is this a bad idea? My concerns are mainly the time it will consume and the fact that my English is not perfect. I have some writing errors that can be really annoying. Social media is also a difficult one, should it be in Norwegian or English?
Do any of you have some experience regarding a multilingual blog? Maybe some of you have some input on how I should do this? I know it's 6 months till' August, but I want to get started making the blog and make sure it's 100% ready when I leave. Some articles about my issues before traveling could be cool, too.
Hope some of you have some tips for me! I really want to learn how I can make my blog the best it can be.
