Can anyone help me out here? I can't decide. I'm going to stay for about three nights in wherever I decide to stopover. I'm flying from London. Most of the decent airlines do stopovers to Oz in places such as Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong etc. I would love to do Hong Kong or Singapore, however I'll only have three days and so I'm thinking Dubai might be the best option. I'm sure I'll end up exploring Singapore etc at a later date during my travels anyway and then I can stay for longer.

If you're a shop-a-holic Singapore is great, otherwise ....

Personally I'd choose Asia.

But really, for 3 days? I think any major city has enough to keep one interested for 3 days. I'd make the choice based on price/airline and then start looking into what you might do while you're there :)

I would choose Hong Kong out of the 3 cities but as Peter says, all of them have enough to keep you interested for that time.

Dubai didn't really spring to mind for me since it doesn't break the journey very evenly like Asian cities do.

Hong Kong definitely. It has oodles to see, and it's easy.

For me the choice order is HK, Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Seoul.

I agree Dubai is a less logical place to stop. I haven't been to Taipei but my order of the others you mention is:
HK, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, KL.

If you're flying into either Sydney or Melbourne it would make sense to stop over in either Hong Kong or Singapore. I flew to Perth via Dubai, so the flights were slightly more even. However it was only a short connection. It depends what you plan to do in your 3 days? Do you want to shop/relax or sight see? Personally, I would prefer Singapore or Hong Kong, as I've heard from others that Dubai doesn't have as much to offer sightseeing wise.

Emirates does have flights from Mel > London only stopping once in Dubai.

It does mean a 14 hour flying leg though which I personally would also try to avoid. But hey, if the price was right, I'd still consider it. It's not that big a deal being on such a long leg. And I'm sure you could find enough to do in Dubai for three days.

It really depends on what you want from your time, and whether you intend to go back to visit other cities later. If you don't think you will get back that way, then surely three days in Hong Kong (which sounded like your own preference) is better than nothing.

For me, I wasn't that impressed with Dubai, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Each had something to recommend it of course - the mosque tour in Dubai was excellent, the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore are fantastic, and the Petronas Twin Towers in KL look great - but otherwise they are touristy, expensive and all about money and shopping. If that suits you then great, but it wasn't my thing.

Hong Kong can have the same issues, but there is much more to it as an alternative. I really liked Taipei too, and being comparatively small, you could see a lot and eat a lot of good street food in that time.
