There are many travel forums. Every day someone is asking for hotel advice. You can ask for hotel advice but also include a price range, particular city and if a big city where in the city. Then you will have a few hotels to do your research for. Off season you should be able to get hotels with a walk in or with a phone call from the airport.

You choose the country, the city and the neighborhood in a big city first. You include a price range per night in the local currency or at least a well known Western currency. Don't ask for a random hotel anywhere and then head for that city.

Sign on to several travel forums. Some get a lot of daily traffic and some nothing for days at a time.

For cheap hotels you can pay cash. (This means you must work up a budget and know how much you can afford to spend each night.) Off season, stop in, check out the rooms and decide to stay or move on. Some areas have a greater concentration of hotels within walking distance.

If you are wealthy and often stay in better hotels you can also use a travel agency. I find it easier to arrive in new cites for the first time during the day or early evening and not late at night. Cheaper transportation from airports, you are not walking around in the dark carrying everything you own.

Google check for the city you have an interest in. Then research some of the suggestions you get. Use a laptop so you can have maps and several pages showing for comparison.

For flights you can purchase your own plane tickets. Pull up your favorite airline website and enter the departure city and arrival city. Choose the class of ticket. Enter dates and get a price. Use one of your several credit cards. The airline will send a confirmation number and itinerary to your computer. (Save your itinerary and confirmation number!)

Any problems you can contest the charge on your credit card. Choose an airline you have a frequent flier affiliation and collect the miles for free rides and upgrades later on.

Do it yourself for booking flights!

P.S. For long distance travel always have more than one source of spending money. More than one debit card, more than one credit card. (Record the numbers in a secure place.) You could lose or damage a single credit or debit card and be flat broke! Different countries different currency requirements.

(For credit and debit cards remember to notify your banks that you will be traveling overseas. You don't want them in a panic and suspect fraud when big charges suddenly come in from Nigeria or Russia on your account.)

Overseas for cheap purchases I use cash. This means restaurants, bars, street vendors, stores, etc. The more you expose your CC or debit card numbers the greater chance of CC fraud.

Later on use your laptop in a secure area and see how much actually came out of your bank accounts if you use a CC - debit card overseas.

Up to you.
