Travel Forums Europe enquiry about living in England

Hi all,

I just have a quick question. I currently live in Sydney, Australia but one of my long term visions is to move over to England. I'm currently studying social work, so once I'm accredited I was wondering how the field of social work does in terms of amount of jobs and where they would be? Ideally I'd love to live in Liverpool (have some family there, and support Liverpool FC) but areas close to there wouldn't be too bad also.

Thank you,

A look at workgateways might give you an idea of the shortage of social workers in the UK, and there are five pages of jobs here on indeed including at least one in Liverpool.

Good luck with the job-hunting!

That post in Liverpool I linked to above has now closed but there are at least 25 pages of jobs there and in the first twenty or so pages I counted six in Liverpool itself, one in Birkenhead and another one on the Wirral. They'll be crying out for you!

I would advise you to join a group on facebook with your fellow australians. For example i'm from Finland and lived in London last year - first thing I did was to join "finnish people living in london" group on facebook. Those kind of groups work very well for advise seeking on common topics around moving to UK.

Do you want to live there permanently or only for a year or two? It makes a significant difference in the process of getting a visa. In recent years, the UK has become increasingly difficult for someone to emigrate to. Going for a year as a youth on a Working Holiday type visa on the other hand is not that difficult.

If you are thinking longer term, then I suggest you do some research on what it takes to get residency before you think about what the job prospects are. Cart
