I'm planning to travel the trans-mongolian railway in October. I have 2 weeks to complete this and I want to spend enough time in Moscow, Mongolia and Beijing. I'm thinking of flying from Moscow to Irkutsk to save some time. Does anybody have information on cheap flights within Russia? Any infow would be greatly appreciated.
Going from Moscow to Beijing only by train, non-stop takes at least six days, I think. Perhaps more, so flying to Irkutsk will help, but you will be missing half the country...
If I only had two weeks to spend in Russia, I would stick to European Russia and see lots of things around there. And I would save the long journey for at least a month to see the amazing things along the way. Thats my opinion on it though.
my primary reason for doing this trip is to visit mongolia, everything else i can fit into the trip is just icing on the cake. Instead of spending 4 days on the train to Irkutsk, I'd rather fly there and use the extra time in Mongolia(gobi, maybe).
From the website u posted, I was able to go the website of Siberia airlines (http://www.s7.ru/en/flight_info/fares/index.asp).
U can book flights online. They even have an office here in NY,
19 West 34 St., Suite 815, NY 10001

A flight from Moscow to Irkutsk costs US$262, including all taxes and fees, slightly cheaper than most of the train fare estimates I've received over the web.
