Hi there,

Does anyone know if the ferry still runs from Tuticorin in India to Colombo in Sri Lanka? All the information I can find is outdated...

Thank you

Amy

Hi, Jennings,

I went to Sri Lanka in February 2016 for an event. I searched for ferry service between Chennai/Tuticorin/Rameshwaram/Vizag/Cochin and Lanka. There were so much of inconsistent information that discouraged me from my cruise adventure. I even looked at the pics of the ships and its accommodations. Trust me, it won't bring you a fine experience if the quality/comfortability of accommodation is your first preference. And I was not ready for any hot-bunking either.

I didn't want to mess up my plans in Lanka. I took the flight from Madurai to Colombo and I didn't regret it.

Though I am from Coimbatore, I took the flight from Madurai because that is the cheapest as well as the best available air route. You can save nearly 100$ depending on the price availability.

Tip:
1) Try to enjoy the local food. It is tasty as well as inexpensive. Do visit Negombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Sri Pada (adams peak) if you're fit enough to conquer some heights.
2) Get a Dialog/Airtel local SIM. Just 5 USD for a bundled offer. You will save so much on phone calls and data.

Enjoy!

Pravin
