Never been one to try to mislead people.

If you want to bet on chokers, bet on Argentina or england. Argentina have some strong players coming through, Tevez springs automatically to mind but they aren't a strong enough unit to warrant favouritism on current qualification positions, dont try to be too clever. I think common sense tells everyone, that when it matters, Brazil will be strongest. Lets be honest, it wont be the first time.

And lets sort something out about englands chances here. In 96 they were at home and still couldnt turn that into an advantage against a SUPERIOR (swallow it) German team. In 98, they were beaten by Argentina, who in turn were beaten by Holland, who were beaten by Brazil, who were in turn beaten by France....close? Get over yourselves, please. 2000, did you even qualify?? All i remember is hooligans getting water blasted by Charleroi police for causing violent disturbances. 2002, beaten comfortably by Brazil, again superior in all aspects and deserved winners. 2004, please dont start. Beaten by Portugal, who were in turn beaten by Greece. Let me say that again. GREECE. They deserved it because they played like a team, whereas england folded under the collective weight of their pants when the hopes placed on boy-wonder crashed against the rocks. Everyone blames the boss. Its not his fault that hes in charge of a nation of bottlers. A winning team needs heroes, youve got prancy wee pretty boys in your ranks. It'll never. Hear this again....NEVER happen.

We're limited in population and funding and we'll win it before you do again. 'Team' is a word long forgotten in english football.

'Misleading'. Hello Mr Pot, im Mr Kettle, you're black.

Very noble points Joe, you've conveniently missed out how Ireland are getting to the quarter finals this time round. And by the way, not once in my post did i mention any hard luck stories. We definitely deserved to get beat by Brazil. You obviously didn't watch the England/Germany game because there was nothing in that one, same with Portugal. Don't throw the limited in funding and population in, that is such a weak argument (maybe explains why you look for anyone with Irish grandparents to play for you though!!!!!). Come back next summer and we'll see, but England definitely have a good chance. To single out England and Argentina as bottlers is naive too - Holland, Spain, Italy on occasions, France on occasions, all the top teams have done it.

Most people are pretty happy with Sven as well, we've only been beaten twice in all competitive games under him, not bad really. You shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers. Now i think you need to sit in the corner and stop taking your anti-England pills because you obviously get over excited when you're taking them

Sorry, forgot to respond to the 'team' part

Trivia question:

Who's captain in the last World Cup threw his toys out the pram and flew home, showing a great team spirit???

Answers on a postcard to Joe.

So... are you all saying that soccer is a big deal where you're from? Sorry, I mean 'football'. How many times did I get corrected in Belfast for that one!

BTW, I saw some game or other late last June in Belfast, where England played some other team that I can't remember, and that's when I learned that the English flag is a red cross on a white backround. Well, who knew!! Probably everyone but me. Anyhow, I came away thinking 'nice uniforms and boy they run fast'. I can't remember anything else of interest that stuck out.

Mind, that may have been the 3 margaritas.

Hi Joe,
Why the animosity against the English team and the people who believe that England will win the World Cup?
Is it something with their style of play? Or because u support Ireland and this is some kind of a personal Battle of Britain thingy between u and Dave?;)

I support England and naturally i hope to see them winning the cup even though i think they will find it tough against teams that play with flair. Brazil, Portugal, Spain etc.

That said, every country that qualifies for the World Cup in Germany is there on merit and stands as good a chance of winning it as the seeded teams. U see Porto winning the Champions League, Greece with the Euro Cup, and even the Asian teams are making massive inroads..
Who knows? Maybe it's the Americans that get the last laughs.

Aside to Dave: No dissing Roy Keane alrite? He's a machosexual. Although i cant say so on that evidence. (no, i dont support Man Utd. Im waiting for the Liverpool game to start!)
