Data1000 has indicated that this thread is about China

I definately plan to go to Lijiang, Lugu Lake, and Zhongdian. However, I noticed that it takes a lot of time to travel to and from Lugu Lake. Is it worth the time and long bumpy bus ride?

I would also like to visit Dali and Deqin (far north area 6 more hours from Zhongdian). Anyone been there? I may have to choose between Deqin and Lugu. I have only nine days for Yunnan.

Any advice?

Hi Data1000

Your profile does not specify your gender. If you are male then Lugu Hu could be of special interest. The Mosu (subgroup of Naaxi) people still practice matriarchy.

I have uploaded some http://community.travelchinaguide.com/m_photo.asp?p=35&i=0 Mosu pictures taken in Lijiang Old Town. You can arrange transport through a Mosuo family cafe there.

Cheers

I just checked the above link in my last post. Follow this oneWOCCA's Photo Album , click on any of the pictures. When the album opens, go to page 32 for Mosuo pix.

Thanks. Does page 35 mean photo #35? If I am going to visit Lijiang, and only have time for two of the following, which one should I skip? (Dali, LuGu, Zhongdian)

Does Dali have anything special that Lijiang doesn't have?

BTW, I'm male.

Thanks again.

Dali is about halfway between Zhongdian and Kunming. If you only have 9 days, you might not have time to go to Deqin. If you are only there for one evening, it's probably not worth the time (though some people enjoy the scenery on the bus ride itself enough).

If you're into hiking, any of the places you mentioned are pretty good to visit. If not, you might plan on spending less time in Lijiang, because it is, while still a place to see, kind of like Disneyland.

Thank you for your advice. I have decided to skip Deqin. If I have time, I might go to Lugu. Have you ever been to Lugu? Any advice? Also, do you know how long it takes to go from Kunming to Dali by bus? Finally, do you know if there is a flight from Zhongdian or Lijiang to Chengdu?

Have a nice day.

Haven't been to Lugu, no. From Kunming to Dali should be about 6 hours (assuming the road is still fixed like it was 2 months ago). There is also a train that goes overnight.

There are flights from Zhongdian to Chengdu, but I don't know if they layover in Kunming. Online seems to say there are flights from Lijiang to Chengdu too.

Thanks again. When I get to Zhongdian, I will ask where to buy plane tickets to Chengdu. I guess there will be a layover in Kunming. I was thinking about taking a train from Nanning-Kunming-Dali, but it is probably worth it to save time and just fly.
