Love Burma, or Myanmar as it has been called since 1989 ..

Check my TP Blogo if you want to get a taster .. here

It was a river trip which is fabulous way to go, if a tad expensive,

Happy travels

Steve

Burma is oppressively hot in May and the whole of SE Asia enters monsoon during that period. Having said that, it makes accommodation prices cheaper. Travel in Burma is more dangerous during inclement weather. Its just my opinion but I have travelled in the region extensively for one year, on a shoestring.

Different countries means different visa requirements. Know your visa regulations for each country. Some countries (like Thailand) might require "proof of onward travel." This is usually a plane ticket out of the country within 30 days if you intend to enter with the free visa Exemption you get at the airport. Otherwise a Tourist Visa may be required.

When I went to Myanmar I flew from Bangkok. This way from my country I could use cheaper round trip long distance flights to Thailand instead of higher priced one way flights. Flying from Thailand to other countries is not that expensive. (For Myanmar check for latest info on border crossings overland.) I really liked Bagan when I was there.

You have a long time to flesh things out. Know how to handle your money too. Don't rely on a single debit card for spending money. (You lose or damage a single card you will be out spending money.) Have back up credit cards in case you need to pay for something in an emergency. (Motor vehicle accidents, medical care, etc.)

You can't do too much research. Forum searches, Google searches and even reading old fashioned travel guides can help. Plan a budget out and know how much you have each day for spending money AFTER paying for transportation.

Good luck.
