I read in a rough guide that it was common practice to line your ruchsacks with chicken wire. This would stop people slashing through it with a knife thus stopping them stealing from you.Has anyone ever done this

I heard about that many, many years ago. In fact so long ago, I can't remember when. Don't know if it is still relevant today

In general, it doesn't matter how well your property is protected. If they want to steal it they will.

Sorry but thats the way it is. I've heard some people say with the hastle and weight that comes with buying one, it's not worth getting one. Only my opinion.

Yeah, I saw one of those it did look excessive and a little heavy. Plus a little like a red flag to a bull, as in come and get me

I shared a room in Laos with an English guy that was using wire mesh to encase his pack. It was quite effective when he wrapped it around something immoveable, such as a plumbing pipe. The mesh folds away very compactly when not in use. I considered buying one second hand last time I was in Bangkok, but the cost was too high.

Ive bought one and yes it is abit on the heavy side.say the same as a tin of beans but surely people pack other things that are less used than something that gives you abit more security and piece of mind.it packs no bigger than 2 pairs of socks.

Hi everyone,

I hadnt heard of this before this thread. Came across this today in case any of you want to see what it looks like.

Go to www.greatoutdoors.ie. Click on Adventure Travel on the side menu and then Travel Security.

The mesh for a large pack is a little pricey at 79 euros....has anyone found a cheaper one?
