You can prefer train or car. Train is the best option to reach Delhi from Manali.

There are no direct train from New Delhi to Manali. You can choose Delhi to Kalka or Delhi to Shimla then go Manali by bus or taxi. The distance between New Delhi to Manali is 554 kilometer. New Delhi to Shimla is 426 kilometer. So you can go Delhi to Shimla and then go Manali.
Further road route, map, distance info can be seen at :

Rahul Negi makes good points. I am now in Shimla, having traveled from Manali and other places in Himachal Pradesh. The hiking has been excellent. We are on a two-month trip of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu-Kashmir, traveling by car on many of the narrow and rough mountain roads.

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corp. offers a daily Delhi-Manali air-conditioned Volvo coach service departing Delhi at 6:30 p.m., arriving Manali at 8:30 a.m.

It departs Manali at 5:30 p.m., arriving Delhi at 7 a.m.

There also is a service between Delhi and Shimla.

For more information, check this Web site:

I'm currently traveling in Himachal Pradesh for a month before traveling to Ladakh and Jammu-Kashmir. I'm now in Kaza.

Hey, If you want to go Manali from Delhi, You should book the Volvo to go there. Must visit Rohtang Pass but should confirm that it is opened at that time or not. I went to Manali in february and Rohtang Pass was closed so I couldn't enjoy much.

Hi, Nitin,

I travelled from Delhi to Manali by car in the last May. It was almost a 20 hour journey. We left Delhi at 7 AM and reached Manali on the next day 3AM (we stopped a few times for food and refreshments). Trust me, it was a tiresome journey.

I went like this.. Delhi - Kurukshetra - Chandigarh - Bilaspur - Mandi - Kullu - Manali.

I don't know if direct trains are available.

There is bus transport facility between Delhi and Manali. I reckon this is the next best option.

As others said, Rothang Pass is a wonderful place. After a big struggle, we managed to visit the place. That time some strike was going on. I read in a newspaper that the government is not allowing the vehicles to the pass anymore due to environmental issues.

Don't miss to visit it. See if they have changed/relaxed the restrictions.
