I'll be going to Valencia in October for my parents' wedding anniversary. We're hoping to combine this with a few extra days doing some light hiking in a hilly or foresty region, and/or sightseeing in a smaller historic city. (Particularly interesting Roman sights and/or castles would also be interesting.) I'm really not familiar with that region of Spain, generally heading to Andalucia instead. For comparison, we love Ronda (in winter, without the tourist crowds), hiking in the Sierra de Grazalema, and we are fond of Sevilla, Cadiz, Tarifa, Arcos de la Frontera, etc. Based on that, if we want to rent a car from Valencia and drive not more than 2-3 hours (or train for a similar amount of time), where would you recommend us to go?

I've since stumbled upon Montanejos as a possible destination. Anyone with personal experience?
