Hi,

don't know if this question has ever been asked, but I was just curious what people do to chill out? My prob at the moment is, I have to know a 1000 pictures for an arts history exam by heart (800 are deadly boring or ugly) and even chocolate doesn't help any longer...

Take a trip over the border to Amsterdam and hang out in a coffeeshop for a while...that will take your mind of things , although it may make remembering a 1000 pictures even harder .

Yeah, but will you really care after the coffee shop experience?? Or, will you even remember to get back in time fore the exam???

I think if you ask lil j, she'll say go on a shopping spree to give your mind a break for awhile.

Sometimes, when writing a paper, I'd set limits with rewards (sounds anal, but it worked!).

For example, I'd say to myself: "Once I finish page 3/comparing this poem to that/tying up this impossible sentence/figuring out how the hell to retrieve the last 6 paragraphs which have disappeared for no reason at ALL... then I can have a coffee/go for a walk/eat that bag of cookies/stop for the day/etc."

That way, everything got done in sections (must admit, though, that I'm not a last-minute person) without the pressure of an immediate deadline. Plus those little breaks gave me the satisfaction of a job well done (and, well - just plain done) and some well-earned R&R.

I think that's what set my mind at ease most - just knowing I was moving forward and getting somewhere.

I am most relaxed when I am trekking somewhere. Up in some mountains, away from everything...especially my phone...
